Anticipating Unseen Climate Extremes

Hebe Nicholson works on the Anticipating unseen Climate Extremes (ACE) research project led by Dr Tom Matthews, a climate scientist at King’s College London and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, and his team of researchers.

ACE (Anticipating unseen Climate Extremes) is a research project led by Dr Tom Matthews (King’s College London) that focuses on “unseen” extreme weather events—heatwaves, storms, and compound hazards that go beyond what we’ve historically observed. As climate change pushes the planet into unfamiliar territory, the project combines physical and social science to build ways of anticipating these unprecedented extremes, assessing their catastrophic risk potential, and helping societies prepare so they’re not caught off guard.
